My first time doing yoga.

My experience and my preconceived notions.

Overcoming the fear of judgement and being less than perfect.

I have always thought of yoga as a luxury something that could only be done when I had a certain amount of money. I thought I needed to have the latest and nicest workout set with the cutest sneakers to boot. I also thought that I needed to be flexible pro before signing up for classes, despite being worse than a novice. All these preconceived notions solidified by what I saw online would make me avoid even thinking about taking part in such a thing. Seeing all the prim and proper, thin, and perfectly sculpted women in their lululemon would make me hesitate even more. The though of not being perfect at yoga before beginning was the main thing stopping me from putting myself out there, knowing I would not be able to handle being judged.

To my surprise yoga was nothing like I expected. The first session I attended taught me so much. Despite not participating, it felt such a calming atmosphere. An unexplainable wave of peace washed over me. I brought my friend along; it was her first time aswell. She echoed my sentiments and she told me she felt noticeably less stressed after the session. However I still felt overwhelmed and intimidated by the idea of being involved in the session. After a little nudge from Sam, I tried it out. I can say that with out a doubt it was an amazing experience and I felt a million times lighter. All the stress I was feeling about upcoming deadlines seemed to disappear. It was an experience I truly needed. The session pushed me not only physically but also mentally aswell and I was all the better for it. When it came to the meditation portion of the session I felt so free to think clearly, usually my mind goes a million miles an hour. I've always scoffed when the topic of meditation would come up because I've always thought it to be a sham. But I can say confidently that it actually works especially after a yoga session.

Yoga is something everyone can participate in and is something that everyone should try at least once in their life. Whether that is in some upscale studio or in the comfort of your own home. I would personally suggest YRC :) Sam is a great teacher and guide. He is particularly good at meeting you where you're at and helping you progress. My experience with YRC has taught me that the only thing you need when it comes to Yoga is a good mindset.
